The counter protestors from the mosque, joined by their interfaith allies, offered her water and invited her to come inside for conversation.
She was adamant about not stepping into the center -- until one member of the mosque closed in on her for a hug.
Cynthia DeBoutinkhar wrote about the experience on Facebook.
Something came over me and I went up to her and asked if I could give her a hug. I wouldn't let go of the hug. I felt her body go from tense to soft and I asked her to please come inside with me. She was actually AFRAID! I asked if I look scary to her. She said I didn't. I promised her I'd stay right by her side the whole time.When we walked in, me carrying one of her two signs, everyone was waiting for her in the lobby. We all began applauding. I stayed by her side as I promised.

Another rally was scheduled to take place at Masjid Muhammad in Washington, D.C. The Facebook page announcing that event was later taken down. Still, a few interfaith allies attended a Friday prayer service at the mosque to make it clear that they were willing to stand alongside Muslims.
Catherine Orsborn, director of the Shoulder to Shoulder interfaith campaign, which aims to end anti-Muslim bigotry, was one of the leaders who attended the prayers. Other than a security protocol leaflet inserted into the program, she said the service went on as planned and the community didn't seem to be on edge.

We Mormons often find ourselves explaining to people why we can't drink alcohol, coffee, or tea and why we don't smoke. It's part of a revelation that the prophet Joseph Smith had called "The Word of Wisdom" which is part of Mormon scripture. Although it was less stringently enforced in the nineteenth century, following the Word of Wisdom has become one of the main hallmarks of Mormonism and is a part of living worthily enough to enter a Mormon temple. But why? Is it just about health? And if it is, are Mormons healthier than the rest of America?
